Thomas, Finau, Watson among notables to miss cut at U.S. Open
While the majority of the top players at the 119th U.S. Open will play into the weekend, the gorgeous Pebble Beach layout proved to be too much for a handful of notables.
Justin Thomas, Tony Finau, and Bubba Watson were the notable names to miss the cut of 2-over par, with 79 players qualifying for the weekend after benign conditions led to quality scoring on Thursday and Friday.
Thomas' first major since missing the PGA Championship due to a wrist injury didn't go as planned, as the 26-year-old fired matching rounds of 73 to finish at 4-over par. Finau, meanwhile, shot a 72 on Friday after struggling to a 74 during Round 1.
Watson missing the weekend shouldn't be surprising, as the two-time Masters champion has only made the cut five times in 13 starts at the U.S. Open. The 40-year-old hasn't played more than 36 holes at the U.S. Open since 2016 at Oakmont Country Club.
