Todd nearly breaks 60 in final round to capture Bermuda Championship

Brendon Todd fired a final-round 62 to win the Bermuda Championship by four strokes on Sunday.

Todd flirted with a 59, carding seven straight birdies between the second and eighth holes to finish with a 29 on the front.

He gave himself a legitimate chance to break 60 by starting the back nine with two birdies. Even after three straight pars, a birdie on 15 kept his hopes for a 59 alive, but then Todd finished his round with two pars and his only bogey of the day on 18.

The victory is just his second win on the PGA Tour, and the 34-year-old's first since 2014. He's endured an up-and-down career, making just four of 43 cuts between 2015 and 2018, and Todd was the 2,006th-ranked golfer in the world to begin this season. He lost his playing card in 2016 but is now exempt through the 2021-22 campaign.

"A year ago, I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep playing," Todd said after the round, according to Golf Digest's Daniel Rapaport. "So it’s really special to get this win this soon."

Harry Higgs (-20), Hank Lebioda, Aaron Wise, Brian Gay, and Scottie Scheffler (-18) rounded out the leaderboard.
