World's top 5 lead stacked field for PGA Tour restart at Colonial
When the PGA Tour makes its return at the Charles Schwab Challenge on June 11, the game's elite will be in attendance.
The world's top five players - Rory McIlroy (1), Jon Rahm (2), Brooks Koepka (3), Justin Thomas (4), and Dustin Johnson (5) - will all take part in the tournament at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
"Our field is deep," Charles Schwab Challenge tournament director Michael Tothe told Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Tuesday. "It's really come together nicely."
It's the first time that Colonial has had all top five players in the field since the world rankings started in 1986.
Shane Lowry, Kevin Na, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Matthew Wolff, Jason Day, and Phil Mickelson are among other notables that have committed to the event.
Tiger Woods' status for the tournament remains up in the air, though.
"We've not talked to Tiger at all. Certainly would love to have him in the field," Tothe said. "He played really, really well in The Match (II) on the weekend."
This will mark the first PGA Tour event since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will be played without onsite access for fans and strict health and safety protocols in place.
