Fowler among notables to miss cut after shocking putting blunder

A stunning putting blunder during his closing stretch played a big role as Rickie Fowler missed the PGA Championship cut.

Fowler rebounded from an opening-round 73 with four birdies over his first 10 holes on Friday to sit well inside the cut of 1-over heading to his 15th hole. After narrowly missing his par, the 31-year-old accidentally moved his ball one inch with his putter, resulting in a stroke and a double-bogey.

That put him on the cutline, and a bogey on his 17th hole ensured Fowler's streak of 14 straight made cuts in majors would end.

Fowler isn't the only big-name player to miss the cut at the season's first major. Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, and Sungjae Im also won't be playing this weekend in San Francisco.

Two of the most surprising players to miss the cut are previous major champions Zach Johnson and Martin Kaymer. Both sat just one shot off the lead after firing opening-round 66s on Thursday, but they struggled mightily to repeat their strong play in Round 2.

Johnson shot a 6-over 76 to miss the number by one stroke, while Kaymer's score ballooned to an astonishing 12-over 82 as he fell over 125 spots down the leaderboard.
