The course

The Open Championship returns to Sandwich for the 15th time as the 7,204-yard, par-70 Royal St. George's Golf Club hosts the 149th edition. The course sits on Sandwich Bay, roughly two hours from southeast London.

The course is known for endless mounding across the fairways, often sending pinpoint drives bounding in various directions. With Darren Clarke and Ben Curtis emerging victorious the last two times the course hosted The Open, Royal St. George's has garnered a reputation as an underdog's paradise.

As is the case with most links-style courses, a prevalent wind is required to make Royal St. George's play to its most difficult potential. While breezy conditions are expected this week, the early forecast appears favorable without heavy rain coming to the English coast.
