Fleetwood makes history with 2nd 63 of U.S. Open career
Tommy Fleetwood added to the records being shattered this week at Los Angeles Country Club with an incredible Sunday round at the U.S. Open.
With a 7-under 63 to close the event, the Englishman became the only man ever with multiple rounds at the U.S. Open of 63 or better. His previous 63 came in the final round of the 2018 event at Shinnecock Hills, which left him just one shot out of a playoff with Brooks Koepka.
Fleetwood had a putt just over five feet on the 18th hole to match the single-round U.S. Open scoring record of 62 but pushed it out to the right and settled for par. His final card showed four birdies, two eagles, and one bogey to finish at 7-under.
Fleetwood's weapon of choice throughout the round was his 3-wood, with swings of that club on No. 6, No. 8, No. 11, and No. 14 setting up three birdies and an eagle.
The sizzling round saw Fleetwood vault all the way into fifth place, with the leaders just beginning their final rounds in southern California.
