McIlroy wins Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finishes 1 stroke shy of tournament record
Rory McIlroy is back in the winner's circle, and he nearly did so in historic fashion.
The Northern Irishman won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am by two strokes Sunday, finishing one shot back of the tournament record (22-under) set by Brandt Snedeker back in 2015.
It's McIlroy's first win since the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2024. It's also his 42nd professional victory and 27th on the PGA TOUR. The latter puts him in sole possession of 22nd place on the TOUR's all-time wins list.
McIlroy was thrilled to win at one of the sport's most iconic venues.
"To win at one of the cathedrals of golf is really, really cool," McIlroy said following his victory.
Shane Lowry finished as the runner-up after a birdie on 18. Sepp Straka entered Sunday with the lead but plummeted to T7 after a final-round 72.
Rank | Player | Total |
---|---|---|
1 | Rory McIlroy | -21 |
2 | Shane Lowry | -19 |
T3 | Lucas Glover | -18 |
T3 | Justin Rose | -18 |
T5 | Russell Henley | -17 |
T5 | Cam Davis | -17 |
T7 | Tom Kim | -16 |
T7 | Sepp Straka | -16 |
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished T9 in his season debut following a month-long absence from a freak hand injury he suffered making ravioli.
McIlroy, meanwhile, seemed to get better as the tournament wore on. He shot a 5-under 31 on the back nine Sunday, highlighted by a ridiculous 339-yard drive over the trees on the par-5 14th to set up an eagle.
The victory also represented another impressive comeback on Rory's resume.
In what was his debut event of the 2025 PGA TOUR season, McIlroy spoke about the significance of starting the new campaign on a high note.
"To get this win, this early, means a great deal," he said. "Hopefully just keep the momentum going into Torrey Pines in a couple weeks time."
