Andrew Landry, the 624th-ranked player in the world, holds the lead at 3-under par with play suspended for the day in the first round of the 116th U.S. Open.

Weather wreaked havoc throughout the opening day at Oakmont with three different delays taking place before play was suspended at 4:30 p.m. Only nine players have completed their round, with Landry facing a 10-footer for birdie on his 18th hole when play eventually resumes Friday.

Half of the 156 players in the field have yet to tee off, with Bubba Watson and Danny Lee trailing the PGA Tour rookie by one shot, sitting at 2-under par. University of Texas amateur Scottie Scheffler is the leader in the clubhouse, posting a 1-under 69 just minutes before the horn sounded to halt action.

Through 11 starts in his PGA Tour career, Landry has never posted a score better than 3-under par, so to call his opening round shocking would be a major understatement. Using three birdies in a row on holes 2, 3, and 4, the 28-year-old Texan would get it to 5-under par before bogeying his 16th and 17th holes of the day. Should Landry hole his birdie putt on 18, his 66 would mark the lowest opening-round score in Oakmont U.S. Open history.
