Defending Walter Cup champion PWHL Minnesota hired Melissa Caruso as its new general manager, the team announced Tuesday.

Caruso, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, previously spent 15 years working in the AHL's league offices.

"It's an exciting time for women's sports, and I thank leadership for trusting me with the opportunity to lead PWHL Minnesota during these crucial formative years for the league," Caruso said. "I can't wait to get started on the journey to defend the Walter Cup in Season Two."

Minnesota's original GM, Natalie Darwitz, was removed from her post just eight days after the team won the league's inaugural championship. Darwitz reportedly clashed with head coach Ken Klee.
