Sceptres' Miller ruled ineligible to play for Canada at Worlds
Hannah Miller won't be playing for Team Canada after all.
The IIHF deemed the Toronto Sceptres forward is ineligible to don the Maple Leaf at the upcoming Women's World Championship, Hockey Canada announced Monday.
The IIHF requires a two-year timeline from when Miller last played overseas in order for her to be eligible to represent Canada. The British Columbia-born forward represented China at the 2022 Olympics and played for a Chinese professional team in 2022-23 before coming to the PWHL.
Hockey Canada named her to its initial roster 10 days ago.
"We are extremely disappointed to learn that Hannah is not able to compete for Canada at the upcoming World Championship," general manager Gina Kingsbury said. "We remained optimistic and believed she had met all the conditions outlined by the IIHF to represent her country, including the two-year timeline around the transfer portal."
Miller ranks fourth in the PWHL with 24 points in 26 games this season.
Sceptres teammate Julia Gosling was named to Canada's roster in her place. Gosling has tallied 10 points in 27 games in her rookie campaign.
The 2025 Women's World Championship runs April 9-20 in Czechia. Canada won last year's tournament with a thrilling overtime victory against the United States in the gold-medal game.
