The New York Sirens traded defender Ella Shelton to the Toronto Sceptres in exchange for the third and 27th overall picks in a draft night blockbuster on Tuesday.
The Sirens subsequently took Patty Kazmaier Award winner Casey O'Brien with the No. 3 pick.
Shelton, 27, tallied eight goals and 16 points in 24 games from the backend last season, and she was a first-team All-Star in 2024. She leads all defenders in career goals (15) and points (37), despite having missed six games this past campaign.
The Ingersoll, Ontario, native has one year left on her contract.
O'Brien led the NCAA with 88 points in 41 games. She broke the Badgers' single-season scoring record, previously held by Meghan Duggan. O'Brien's 88 points are the most NCAA-wide since Alex Carpenter tallied 91 with Boston College in 2015-16.
The 23-year-old is also Wisconsin's all-time leader in points. O'Brien passed Hilary Knight for the record in March, and finished her Badgers career with 274 points in 182 games.
O'Brien won three national championships at Wisconsin in 2021, 2023, and 2025.
The Sirens took Colgate center Kristyna Kaltounkova with the first overall pick earlier in the night.
