Manchester City are considering offering Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos a two-year contract, sources told ESPN's Rodrigo Faez and Alex Kirkland.

Ramos, who's eligible to become a free agent this summer, still prefers to renew with Madrid, according to Faez and Kirkland. But City are apparently watching closely and ready to swoop in if the 35-year-old fails to reach an agreement with Los Blancos.

Talks between Ramos and Madrid are reportedly expected to take place in the coming days.

The capital club appears hesitant to offer Ramos a multi-year extension despite his significance to the squad. The center-back has played for Madrid for 16 years and served as captain for the last six seasons.

Madrid usually limit players over the age of 30 to rolling one-year contracts, but they could offer Ramos a deal that includes a second year based on appearances.

City manager Pep Guardiola values Ramos' experience, per Faez and Kirkland, and the club's analytics show he's in good physical condition despite a rash of injuries.

City have four defenders under contract for the 2021-22 season: Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, and John Stones. Eric Garcia is set to join Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.
