Report: Blue Jays expected to trade catcher this offseason
The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to make a deal involving one of their catchers this offseason, rival executives told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Toronto is very deep at the position with Danny Jansen, Alejandro Kirk, and Gabriel Moreno on the roster.
Jansen, who's arbitration-eligible through 2024, and Kirk, who's under team control for four more campaigns, are both coming off career seasons in 2022. Jansen went deep 15 times with an .855 OPS over 72 games, while Kirk became an All-Star for the first time, slashing .285/.372/.415 with 14 homers across 139 contests.
The 22-year-old Moreno is the youngest of the trio and made his MLB debut last season, hitting .319 over 25 games. The club's No. 1 prospect is arguably the best catching prospect in baseball.
