TCU's Dykes ejected vs. SMU after TD called back
It's tough to think of a more dramatic start to the second half of the Iron Skillet rivalry between TCU and SMU, with a called-back touchdown leading to the ejection of Horned Frogs head coach Sonny Dykes.
The Mustangs rode an electric first half to a 41-21 lead only to see the Horned Frogs take the second-half kick back for a touchdown to cut the deficit. However, the return would be called back for a penalty - a call that set Dykes off.
Dykes received back-to-back unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in protest, a move that got him ejected from the contest and sent to the locker room. That left offensive coordinator Kendal Briles in charge of the team for the remainder of the game. Dykes' dismissal was very popular with the SMU crowd after he left their program to go across town and become TCU head coach three years ago.
The ejection certainly sent an immediate spark through the TCU team as it drove the length of the field for a touchdown on a Josh Hoover 46-yard pass to Jack Bech.
