The San Francisco Giants made a major splash in free agency ahead of the winter meetings.

San Francisco and shortstop Willy Adames agreed to a franchise-record seven-year, $182-million contract, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Adames will receive a $22-million signing bonus, according to Passan.

The 29-year-old's reported pact is $15 million more than the nine-year, $167-million extension Buster Posey inked in March 2013. Coincidentally, the latter is now the Giants' president of baseball operations after replacing Farhan Zaidi in late September.

Only Albert Pujols ($254 million over 10 years) and Robinson Canó ($240 million across 10 years) signed larger free-agent contracts than Adames among Dominican-born players.

The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers were also connected to Adames throughout the offseason.

Adames is coming off a career year in which he recorded 32 homers, 112 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, and a .794 OPS over 161 games for the NL Central-winning Milwaukee Brewers.

Milwaukee will get a compensation pick after the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft since Adames rejected a qualifying offer.

San Francisco is still chasing a top starting pitcher, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic. The club has reportedly been eyeing All-Star right-hander Corbin Burnes, who's considered the No. 1 hurler available in free agency.
