New Jersey Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom "will miss some time" with an injury suffered Wednesday against the Boston Bruins, head coach Sheldon Keefe announced postgame.

Markstrom departed the contest after Justin Brazeau crashed into his crease early in the second period.

Markstrom appeared to favor his left leg as he gingerly left the ice.

The 34-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season with a .912 save percentage and a 2.20 goals-against average in 36 appearances. The Devils acquired him in an offseason trade with the Calgary Flames to fill a gaping need between the pipes.

Markstrom's injury also carries ramifications beyond the NHL as a member of Team Sweden for February's 4 Nations Face-Off. Linus Ullmark also hasn't played in a month with a back injury, leaving Filip Gustavsson as the only healthy netminder on the team.

Devils backup Jake Allen entered the game in relief of Markstrom and stopped all 16 shots he faced in New Jersey's 5-1 victory. He projects to receive the majority of playing time with Markstrom sidelined. Allen's posted a .904 save percentage and a 2.59 goals-against average in 15 games this season.

Nico Daws is the most likely recall candidate. The 24-year-old owns a .892 save percentage in 18 AHL games this season and a .894 mark in 46 career NHL appearances.
