Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters Tuesday that defenseman Owen Power appears to have a serious injury.

Ruff couldn't provide specifics about the injury or a possible recovery timeline but said he'd know more in the coming days.

Power was hurt during Saturday's game against the Florida Panthers when his right knee and left ankle bent awkwardly as he defended a falling Carter Verhaeghe.

Buffalo's season will end Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers, but Power is undoubtedly a key cog moving forward. The Mississauga, Ontario, native would've been a candidate to represent Canada at the upcoming World Championship for the third time, though any serious injury will likely keep him out of the tournament.

Power registered a career-high 40 points in 79 games this season. The Sabres selected the 6-foot-6 defenseman first overall in the 2021 NHL Draft.
