Orioles' Rodriguez has mild lat strain, won't throw for few weeks

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde announced Wednesday that right-hander Grayson Rodriguez was diagnosed with a mild lat strain, according to Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun.

Hyde added Rodriguez will resume throwing in a few weeks. Rodriguez remains without a firm timetable to return to the mound.

"Let's get him back on the mound, let's get him playing catch again, and we'll go from there," Hyde said, per Jake Rill of MLB.com.

Rodriguez started the regular season on the injured list after feeling discomfort in the back of his pitching elbow during spring training.

The 25-year-old had a bullpen session canceled last week while dealing with shoulder soreness.

His 2024 season was cut short after sustaining a right lat injury in early August.

"He's had a tough time staying healthy the last few years, and a lat strain's a lat strain," Hyde said. "You're hoping that he starts throwing in a couple weeks and in his progression that he stays healthy."

Orioles starting pitchers have struggled so far in 2025, ranking last in the league in ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts.
