Shedeur: 'My story is going to be similar' to Brady after draft slide
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders isn't letting his draft slide affect his confidence, saying he'll carve out a career akin to the greatest of all time - Tom Brady.
"My story is going to be similar as a late-round draft pick," Sanders said Saturday about Brady, according to Justin Cooper of ESPN Cleveland. "But we're here now, so none of that stuff matters. ...I'm just excited to be here and ready to work."
Sanders' comment was in response to being asked what he could take away from Brady's message after the seven-time Super Bowl champion revealed he texted the Browns quarterback to use his draft slide as motivation.
"I said, 'Dude, whatever happens, wherever you go, that's your first day. Day 2 matters more than the draft. I was 199,'" Brady said on Logan Paul's "Impaulsive" podcast Tuesday. "Who could speak on it better than me, like what that really means? Use it as motivation. You're gonna get your chances. Go take advantage of it."
Sanders, who at one point was discussed as a potential top-three pick, fell to the fifth round before Cleveland selected him with the 144th overall pick. The Colorado product was even the second passer chosen by the Browns, who took Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
Sanders added that he's not letting criticism get to him, stating, "My job isn't to prove people wrong, it's to prove myself right," per NFL reporter Andrew Siciliano.
