Snitker: 'Horrible loss' for Braves after blowing 6-run lead in 9th

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker didn't mince words about his team's performance Thursday after blowing a six-run lead in the ninth inning in an 11-10 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Truist Park.

"Really hard loss," Snitker said during a postgame press conference following the three-game sweep. "We're not playing well. We're not executing. It was nice to see (us) score some runs. Up six runs in the ninth, you feel like you should win the game, obviously, but we didn't.

"You gotta do your job, and we gotta play better. It's a horrible loss. Now we gotta sit on it for five hours on the airplane. We're all going to be miserable, and we should (be)."

The Braves (27-34) led 6-0 after three innings, 9-3 following seven frames, and then carried a 10-4 advantage heading into the ninth.

However, relievers Scott Blewett and Raisel Iglesias allowed a combined eight earned runs on seven hits over the game's last two innings. Eugenio Suárez delivered the biggest hit with a go-ahead two-run double off Iglesias.

Teams trailing by six runs or more in the ninth had lost 1,078 straight contests dating back to the start of the 2023 season prior to the D-Backs' miraculous comeback.

For the Braves, the game marked their largest blown lead since losing to the Boston Red Sox 9-8 on Sept. 5, 2018, after being up 7-1 in the eighth inning.

Atlanta sits fourth in the NL East after coming into the season with World Series aspirations.
