Falcons' Morris: Cousins won't disrupt Penix

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris isn't concerned that Kirk Cousins could be a distraction to starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. after the veteran arrived to mandatory minicamp.

"Kirk is not in the business of disrupting Michael Penix," Morris said Tuesday, according to ESPN's Marc Raimondi.

Cousins has been at a stalemate with the franchise this offseason. The veteran reportedly prefers a fresh start, though the organization has publicly said it has no problem keeping Cousins as a backup. Atlanta reportedly wants any team interested to offset a portion of Cousins' $37.5 million in guaranteed money over the next two seasons.

Despite the lack of resolution, Morris says it hasn't been much of an issue for the team.

"It's been less dramatic of a situation as it has been from an outside-of-the-building standpoint," the coach added.

Cousins, who inked a four-year, $180-million contract with the Falcons last offseason, went 7-7 as a starter and threw 18 touchdowns and a league-high 16 interceptions. He was benched for the Falcons' final three games.
