The Columbus Blue Jackets signed restricted free-agent forward Dmitri Voronkov to a two-year contract with a $4.175-million cap hit.

Voronkov, 24, set career-highs last season with 23 goals and 47 points in 73 games. He played over three minutes more per contest than in his rookie campaign.

"We're very pleased to reach this agreement with Dmitri as he's an important part of our young core," Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell said. "He has size, strength, excellent hands, and has a chance to be a very special player. We look forward to his continued growth and development as a Blue Jacket."

Voronkov has accrued 41 goals, 81 points, and 107 penalty minutes in 148 career games over two seasons.

The Blue Jackets had over $20 million of cap space before signing Voronkov, according to PuckPedia.
