The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Josh Manson to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday.

The new deal comes with an average annual value of $3.95 million, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The 33-year-old's current contract, which expires in 2026, carries a $4.5-million cap hit.

Manson recorded 15 points in 48 games with the Avalanche last season. The 6-foot-3 right-shot defenseman is better known for his physicality and defensive acumen than his offense, however.

The Avalanche acquired Manson in a 2022 trade with the Ducks following an eight-year run in Anaheim. He helped Colorado capture the Stanley Cup in 2022.

Manson might receive slightly less ice time than the 18:02 he averaged last season after the Avalanche bolstered the right side of their blue line by adding Brent Burns in free agency.

Manson has totaled 170 points in 626 games across a 11-year NHL career split between the Ducks and Avalanche.
