Nathan MacKinnon racked up four points as the Colorado Avalanche embarrassed the Edmonton Oilers with an astonishing 9-1 victory Saturday.

Nine goals is the most recorded by an NHL team in a single game this season.

It's the second time in franchise history the Avalanche have scored nine goals in a road game, with the last coming in 2004 against the Vancouver Canucks. The eight-goal margin of victory is the largest for a road win in club history.

MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Jack Drury, and Parker Kelly each scored two goals, while Gavin Brindley notched the other. Devon Toews chipped in with three assists for the Avalanche, and Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves.

"We buried on our chances, and limited them to very few chances so that was the difference tonight," Kelly said after the game, per Altitude TV.

MacKinnon recorded his 30th game of four or more points, trailing Peter Statsny (52) and Joe Sakic (32) for the most in Avalanche/Nordiques history.

"It was one of those nights where we had a really good night and them not so much," Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told Altitude TV. "It happens."

Connor McDavid potted Edmonton's lone goal on the power play in the second frame, cutting the lead to 5-1 before Kelly reestablished the five-goal margin with a shorthanded effort at the 14:38 mark of the period.

Stuart Skinner allowed five goals on 21 shots before he was pulled in favor of Calvin Pickard, who surrendered four goals on 13 shots.
