Report: Lazio sells 11 season tickets on first day of sales
If Lazio supporters are elated about the 2016-17 Serie A season, they have an unusual way of showing it, as the club reportedly sold just 11 season tickets for the upcoming campaign.
The Romans started selling season tickets Monday, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, early returns have been less than stellar.
As dismal as those sales numbers are, they aren't entirely unexpected on the heels of last season's disappointing eighth-place finish. I Biancazzurri sold a record-low 12,800 season tickets last year, and protests last Wednesday signal that matters are poised to worsen before they improve.
Thousands of Lazio fans protested club president Claudio Lotito to express their frustration stemming from the failed appointment of former Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Lotito claimed that it was the fault of rival Roma, whose sporting director Walter Sabatini spoiled Bielsa's move to the Stadio Olimpico. "It's a friend of his, after all. He told him, 'Lotito's unreliable,'" Lotito said about the conflict. "(Juan Sebastian) Veron did the same, for example."
Roma answered Lotito's allegations on Twitter, quoting club president James Pallotta.

#Pallotta responds to Lotito: "...But I feel terrible for #Lazio supporters who deal with this daily. They deserve better."

Simone Inzaghi has since been appointed Lazio manager, though with or without a gaffer, the club has a lot of work to do to fill the 72,698 capacity of the Stadio Olimpico.
