Report: Mexico's Guardado nearing LAFC move

Los Angeles FC is closing in on a move for a Mexican international standout, though it's not the one originally linked with the MLS' newest club.

Amid reports that the City of Angels' second side has targeted a transfer for El Tri star striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, LAFC is reportedly eyeing a switch for PSV midfielder Andres Guardado.

Sans manager and with just two players on the books, Carlos Alvarez and Monday Bassey Etim, ESPN Deportes reports that LAFC has agreed to the terms of a four-year deal with Guardado.

A central midfielder also capable of playing at full-back and on the wing, the 30-year-old would provide both a veteran presence and versatility to the MLS' 23rd outfit ahead of a maiden campaign in North America's top flight.

Guardado has one year left on his deal with the Eredivisie side, and this season made 27 league appearances for the club, pairing two goals with nine assists.

This isn't the first time the Atlas academy product has been linked with a move to the MLS, after Atlanta United boss Tata Martino tried to lure Guardado to the club a year ago. Fifth all time among El Tri appearances with 136 caps, hes currently in Russia with Mexico's Confederations Cup squad preparing for Sunday's clash with Portugal in Kazan.
