McKenna leads Canada to dominant win over Denmark

Canada trounced Denmark 9-1 at the World Junior Championship on Monday.

Gavin McKenna, the potential first overall pick in June's NHL draft, tallied a hat trick for his third consecutive multi-point game to commence the tournament.

McKenna now leads the tournament with seven points.

"It's pretty cool," McKenna told TSN's Kenzie Lalonde about netting a hat trick at the world juniors. "It's something you dream of as a kid, so felt pretty good."

Forwards Porter Martone, Michael Misa, and Brady Martin also each had three points in the rout.

Canada registered 50 shots on goal and allowed only 13 against. It beat Denmark 13-2 in pre-tournament competition.

Denmark's lone goal came 28 seconds into the second period by Florida Panthers prospect Mads Klyvo.

Canada faces Finland in its final game of the round robin on New Year's Eve, which will decide the top seed in Group B.

Canada can finish no lower than second in the group. Finland would fall to third if Czechia beats Latvia in regulation and it loses in regulation versus Canada.
