Canada is set to replace Moise Bombito on its FIFA World Cup roster after the team determined his surgically repaired leg isn't healthy enough, sources told TSN's Matthew Scianitti.

Canada Soccer made the decision with Bombito's long-term health in mind, adds Scianitti.

The center back reportedly played 30 minutes in a closed-door scrimmage against USL League Two side Vermont Green FC, and a final decision about his World Cup availability was subsequently made.

Bombito started in Canada's friendly last Monday against Uzbekistan, but departed at the 31-minute mark after experiencing sensitivity in the tibia he fractured while playing for Nice last year.

Luc de Fougerolles stepped in for Bombito and could be starting in Canada's World Cup opener Friday in Toronto against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Canada has up until June 11 at 3 p.m. ET to name a replacement for Bombito.

The nation already lost key midfielder Marcelo Flores to a torn ACL in his final club game with Tigres before the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Canada head coach Jesse Marsch previously ruled out captain Alphonso Davies for the tournament-opening match.

Bombito made his debut for the national team in 2023 and emerged as a core piece during the country's run to the 2024 Copa America semifinals.
