3-time Grand Slam champ Kerber splits with coach

Three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber has split with coach Rainer Schuettler, she announced on social media Friday.

The pair began working together in November 2018. Under the guidance of Schuettler, Kerber went 25-12 but struggled in her past two Grand Slam appearances.

She was eliminated in the first round of this year's French Open and fell in the second round of Wimbledon despite a strong grass-court season leading up to the event.

"Moving forward, it's never easy to change - especially when you work with great people like Rainer," Kerber wrote. "But for now, we've decided that it's the right time for a fresh start. He has become a friend and I'm thankful for his hard work and dedication in the last months."

Kerber is the latest Grand Slam champion to part ways with their coach. Two-time major winner and former world No. 1 Garbine Muguruza ended her partnership with Sam Sumyk following Wimbledon.
