Aggie Radwanska bests Monica Puig in straight sets
Fourth-seeded Polish right-hander Agnieszka Radwanska beat Puerto Rico's Monica Puig on Friday to advance to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the sixth consecutive year, 6-4, 6-0.
The 26-year-old Krakow-born tactician was put through the paces early, only to dominate the second set in 27 minutes despite an ankle concern that was treated by medics courtside.
Radwanska admitted she wasn't expecting as tough a challenge from the unseeded 22-year-old Puig, saying "(She) was playing with amazing intensity, I was really in trouble in that first set."
Yet to win a Grand Slam, with a 2012 Wimbledon finals loss to Serena Williams the highlight of a burgeoning career, Radwanska will now face unseeded German Anna-Lena Friedsam with a quarterfinals spot on the line. Friedsam surprised 13th-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 earlier Friday.
