Report: AC Milan close to signing Pulisic after submitting €22M bid
AC Milan are close to finalizing a deal with Chelsea worth up to €22 million for Christian Pulisic, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Multiple reports Wednesday indicated that Milan increased their offer for the U.S. international after tabling a €14-million package last week.
Pulisic has already agreed to terms with Milan, sources told ESPN. He reportedly spurned an approach from Ligue 1 side Lyon after they presented a €25-million offer for him.
While Milan's reported proposal falls short of what Chelsea hoped to receive, the Blues would stand to save around €15 million in wages owed to Pulisic next season and recoup at least some of the €64 million they paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019.
The 24-year-old is also out of contract in June 2024, giving Chelsea a reason to sell him now instead of losing him on a free transfer next year.
Milan are hoping he can recapture the form he showed at Dortmund from 2016-19. He made just eight Premier League starts last campaign, scoring once.
The Rossoneri seem to appreciate his versatility, as well as his appeal. U.S. investment firm RedBird Capital is currently putting its stamp on the club after completing a €1.2-billion takeover last summer. As captain of the United States men's national team and the most popular American playing abroad, Pulisic could drive stateside interest in Milan.
He can also fill multiple roles across the front line, including the right wing, where Milan lack a true starter. Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias split time on the right flank last season to varying effect.
