Royal Troon showed no mercy toward some of the game's top players, especially those who played during Friday afternoon's difficult scoring conditions.

Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau were among that unlucky group and headline the notables to miss the cut at the Open Championship.

Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau, and Viktor Hovland also failed to get inside the 6-over cutline.

Those six aforementioned players were near the top of the oddsboard before the tournament started and part of the less favorable tee-time wave.

The scoring average for the field in the Thursday morning-Friday afternoon wave was 74.9, two shots more than the late-early wave.

The average score for the Friday afternoon wave was 75.3. Royal Troon is a par 71.

McIlroy, who entered the tourney as the second favorite behind Scottie Scheffler, finished the week at 12-over, only three shots ahead of Tiger Woods. It's McIlroy's third missed cut at The Open in his career and second since 2013.

Sahith Theegala, Wyndham Clark, Tom Kim, and Cam Smith are a few of the other top golfers heading home early from Scotland.

Ten of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking missed the cut.
