Watch: Ailing Cespedes erases late deficit with pinch-hit blast
Hampered by discomfort in his right leg, Yoenis Cespedes was omitted from the New York Mets' lineup for a third straight night Tuesday, but the 30-year-old still found a way to steal the show at Citi Field.
Summoned to pinch-hit with two runners on and his club trailing 3-0 to the Cincinnati Reds in the bottom of the seventh inning, the ailing outfielder promptly erased his club's late deficit with a line-drive home run off Brandon Finnegan in his first at-bat since Saturday.
Cespedes, who took his time trotting around the bases, now has six home runs through his first 16 games this year and is tied with Nolan Arenado for third in the National League with 17 runs batted in.
Buoyed by Cespedes' seventh-inning heroics, the Mets grabbed a 4-3 victory over the Reds for their fifth consecutive win.
