Lego unveils giant Big Papi replica at Fenway
David Ortiz's farewell tour will reach new heights Wednesday. Six feet and seven inches, to be exact.
Lego teamed up with Big Papi to unveil a larger-than-life replica of the 40-year-old slugger at Fenway Park ahead of the Boston Red Sox's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The build took more than 260 hours, was made with approximately 34,510 bricks, and weighs around 170 pounds.
The Lego Master Builders have the replica doing Ortiz's signature pose, as a tribute to him and the fans of Boston.
A Lego portrait of him and his 11-year-old son, D'Angelo Ortiz, whose passion for the game is well known, was also created.
Ortiz, who has said he'll retire after this season, recently admitted the farewell tour has left him "a little worn out" with his team in the middle of a pennant race.
It hasn't affected his performance, though, as he's put up one of the most efficient and impressive stat lines of his career, entering Wednesday hitting .316/.404/.627, and leading the Red Sox in home runs, RBIs, and OBP.
