It's been a roller-coaster season for Cincinnati Reds right-hander Matt Harvey.

After being acquired from the New York Mets in early May for catcher Devin Mesoraco, he appeared to be on the verge of being traded again Friday before the Reds pulled him back from revocable trade waivers.

Now, it sounds as though he's open to sticking around Cincinnati beyond 2018, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

"Absolutely," Harvey said when asked if he'd be willing to re-sign. "Like I've said, these guys brought me over here in hopes to turn things around. Although there's been some ups and downs, in my mind, it's been a good time. It's definitely a possibility."

After learning he was sticking with the Reds, Harvey took the mound against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon. He allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six in a no-decision.

With the outing, he improved his ERA with the Reds to 4.16 over 95 2/3 innings. It's not the level of success he showcased earlier in his career, but it's a step up from how he had been performing with the Mets in 2018.

Harvey said he's just happy the Reds took a chance on him when they pulled the trigger on a trade earlier in the season.

"It's a lot better than being put to the shelf by another team, which obviously happened earlier this year," Harvey said. "To be on the other end of that and have some success and be wanted, it's kind of where you wanted to end up."

Harvey will be a free agent at the end of the season.
