Blue Jays acquire Font from Mets for cash considerations
The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Wilmer Font from the New York Mets for cash considerations, the team announced Wednesday.
The Blue Jays will be Font's third team this season. The 29-year-old started the campaign with the Tampa Bay Rays before being traded to the Mets in mid-May.
This won't be the first time Font has been a member of Toronto's organization, as he spent parts of 2016 with Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo.
It remains to be seen how the Blue Jays use Font, but the team designated right-hander Edwin Jackson for assignment on Tuesday and lost lefty Clayton Richard to injury over the weekend.
Font has accrued a 5.20 ERA in 45 innings (three starts) in 2019 for the Rays and Mets. He's also pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, and Texas Rangers in his career, throwing 96 innings since making his MLB debut in 2012.
