The Chicago White Sox placed left-hander Dallas Keuchel on the 10-day injured list with back spasms, the team announced Thursday.

The transaction is retroactive to Sept. 7, meaning the 2015 American League Cy Young winner could potentially return to pitch during the final two weeks of the season.

Keuchel is in the midst of a solid campaign for the contending White Sox. He's authored a 6-2 record with a 2.19 ERA and 3.14 FIP during nine starts.

The 32-year-old is also allowing a league-best 0.34 home runs per nine innings thanks to the fifth-best ground-ball percentage in baseball (56.0%), according to FanGraphs.

2020 is Keuchel's first season with the White Sox after he signed a three-year, $55.5-million contract last December.

The White Sox recalled right-hander Reynaldo Lopez from their alternate training site in a corresponding move.
