Chris Archer is hitting free agency, as the Pittsburgh Pirates declined the right-hander's $11-million option, the MLBPA announced Saturday.
The 32-year-old, acquired prior to the 2018 trade deadline in a blockbuster deal that sent right-hander Tyler Glasnow, outfielder Austin Meadows, and pitching prospect Shane Baz to the Tampa Bay Rays, is owed a $250,000 buyout from the Pirates instead.
Archer missed the entirety of the 2020 campaign with neck and shoulder injuries, undergoing surgery for neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome in June.
The two-time All-Star authored a 5.19 ERA and 5.02 FIP over 119 2/3 innings in 2019.
