MLB weekly best bets: Lynn, Irvin face off in profitable under spot
The wins keep rolling in for us after a 2-1 week on our MLB picks, and we love the value heading into this week. Here are a few of our favorite bets:
Giants -1.5 (-110) vs. Mets
Aug. 16, 9:45 p.m. ET
Friends don't let friends bet against Kevin Gausman. The Giants ace has been phenomenal this season, allowing two or fewer runs in 19 of his 23 starts this year while lasting at least six innings in 15 of those 19 outings. That's helped San Francisco post a stellar 15-8 record with a 14-9 mark on the run line in his starts, among the best marks of any hurler.
Conversely, Mets starter Rich Hill has posted a 5.03 ERA over his last 10 outings and allowed three runs in relief in his previous appearance. That marked his eighth time in that 11-game stretch allowing at least three runs despite lasting six innings just once. The Giants have plated five or more runs in 14 of their last 17 games and should provide a big enough cushion for Gausman in this one.
Tigers over (TBD) vs. Angels
Aug. 17, 7:10 p.m.
Will Dylan Bundy ever regain his stellar form from the shortened 2020 season? The Angels righty boasted one of MLB's worst ERAs among qualified starters when the Halos moved him to the bullpen in late June. While there, he posted a 5.40 ERA but showed impressive bat-missing ability.
In three starts since, he's managed a respectable 3.68 ERA. However, he's back to an uninspiring 6.1 strikeouts per nine through 14 2/3 innings, and he's walked six batters in that stretch, too. The Tigers are averaging five runs per game in their last seven contests and should be able to tee off on a struggling Bundy.
Athletics-White Sox under (TBD)
Aug. 18, 8:10 p.m.
Lance Lynn has long been one of baseball's best under bets, returning the greatest profit ($2,045) on $100 under wagers since June 2018. This year, he's gunning for more. The AL Cy Young front-runner has allowed one or fewer runs in six of his last eight starts and 13 of his total 21 outings for the White Sox, boasting a 2.63 ERA since the start of July.
Lynn isn't the only pitcher worth betting in this matchup, though. Athletics starter Cole Irvin has been the 11th-most profitable hurler to the under this season, posting a 15-8 record with a $625 return and a 2.74 ERA since June 27. Expect a pitcher's duel under the lights in Chicago.
