Angels send Heaney to Yankees

The New York Yankees acquired left-handed starter Andrew Heaney from the Los Angeles Angels along with cash considerations in exchange for right-handers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero, the team announced Friday.

Heaney, 30, owns a 5.27 ERA and 4.05 FIP over 18 starts this year for the Halos, posting a strong 28.2% strikeout rate but struggling with 1.53 homers per nine innings.

The southpaw joins a Yankees rotation that ranks fifth in the majors by FanGraphs WAR despite a 3.83 ERA, which ranks ninth. Luis Severino, Corey Kluber, and Clarke Schmidt are all sidelined due to injury.

Junk, 25, has spent the entire 2021 campaign stationed at Double-A Somerset. Over 14 appearances including 12 starts, the right-hander has posted a 1.78 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.

Peguero, 24, has split his season between High-A and Double-A, owning a 2.23 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while making 21 relief appearances.
