Report: Billy Beane on Mets' radar to run baseball operations

The New York Mets are looking to fill some front-office vacancies and Oakland Athletics executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane is on their radar, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

The Mets are in search of a new president of baseball operations after Jared Porter was fired this past winter for sending unsolicited explicit text messages to a reporter before even overseeing a game. Even further, Zack Scott, promoted as interim general manager, is currently on indefinite leave after being charged with driving while intoxicated.

Beane, 59, has been in the Athletics' front office since 1990, originally hired as a scout by then-A's GM Sandy Alderson. Alderson now serves as president of the Mets, the team that drafted Beane in the first round of the 1980 MLB Draft.

Since retiring as a minor leaguer and joining the A's front office, Beane has progressed to his current role of executive vice president of baseball operations. He has won Sporting News Executive of the Year three times.

The Mets currently sit third in the NL East, 5 1/2 games back of the first-place Atlanta Braves and five games out of a wild-card spot. It is the first season under new owner Steve Cohen.
