Betts not surprised by stunning play: 'Knew he was out' when I threw it
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts stopped a potential San Francisco Giants rally in the sixth inning of Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Saturday with an incredible throw to nab Wilmer Flores at third base.
While Betts stunned the Giants, his teammates, and the Oracle Park fans with his tremendous play, the five-time Gold Glove winner was confident Flores would be out the second the ball left his hand.
"Once I threw it, I pretty much knew he was out at that point with what I got on the throw, and it was on target," Betts said, according to The Athletic's Marcus Thompson II.
This isn't the first time Betts has marveled with his postseason defense. He stole a home run from Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman in last year's NLCS, which helped the Dodgers storm back to beat Atlanta by a run and advance to the World Series. Los Angeles beat the Tampa Bay Rays in the Fall Classic for the team's first title since 1988.
