Yankees' Benintendi to undergo hamate surgery
New York Yankees outfielder Andrew Benintendi broke the hook of his hamate bone in his right wrist and will require surgery, manager Aaron Boone said Sunday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Benintendi will undergo the procedure Tuesday. There's no immediate timetable for his return, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone is optimistic the All-Star's season isn't over.
"I think the possibility of him returning is still in play," Boone said Monday, according to The Associated Press.
Benintendi suffered the injury in the middle of his third-inning at-bat Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 28-year-old was hitting .246/.323/.395 with two homers and four steals over 33 games since joining the Yankees prior to the trade deadline. Benintendi was the key offensive addition for the first-place club, which also added starting pitcher Frankie Montas as well as relievers Lou Trivino and Scott Effross.
The Yankees placed Benintendi on the injured list Saturday, recalling speedy outfielder Estevan Florial.
New York completed its three-game set against the Rays on Sunday, winning the finale but losing the series 2-1.
