Red Sox vets clashed with top prospect Casas about pregame routine
Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas said veteran teammates confronted him over his pregame routine last year, which included naps in the clubhouse and sunbathing on the field, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.
Casas, who was called up to the majors last September, added there were "clashes" over the way he carried himself and that he's happy the vets called him out because it shows they care.
"I would have been more concerned if they weren't saying anything to me," Casas said. "I felt like that would have meant they didn't feel like I was going to be (in the majors long).
"I think the fact they were telling me stuff, the fact they were getting on me for the little things meant that they wanted me to go about things the right way. They wanted me to make sure that I'm going to carry on that tradition throughout the years when I stay up here."
Casas, who was a top-ranked prospect in the Red Sox minor-league system over the last few years, said he made changes to his routine, which he had developed in 2019.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora sat down with the 23-year-old to discuss Cotillo's story, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
The skipper told Casas that he hasn't caused any issues in the clubhouse. He also said the rookie is open to making changes, and that he no longer does yoga or sunbathes on the field.
