Blue Jays place Bichette on IL with patellar tendonitis, activate DeJong
The Toronto Blue Jays placed All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette on the 10-day injured list with right knee patellar tendonitis on Wednesday, retroactive to Aug. 1.
Bichette exited Monday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after hurting his knee while rounding first base. On Tuesday, manager John Schneider stated that an MRI on Bichette showed no significant structural damage.
Deadline acquisition Paul DeJong has reported to the team and will be active for Wednesday's game against the division-rival Orioles. DeJong will make his Blue Jays debut during the contest, hitting eighth and starting at shortstop.
Meanwhile, right-hander Thomas Hatch was recalled from the minors, and righty Nate Pearson was optioned to Triple-A.
Bichette became a second-time All-Star this year and leads the American League in hits (144) and batting average (.321).
