Dodgers eliminate Mets, set up marquee World Series vs. Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers punched their ticket to the World Series with a 10-5 win over the New York Mets in Game 6 of the NLCS on Sunday.

The Dodgers will play the New York Yankees in a star-studded Fall Classic. It's the 12th time the two clubs will face each other in the World Series but the first since 1981.

"This is a place that I've dreamt of playing all of my life. To be able to finally come to this stage, be able to play, and hopefully win it is my next goal," Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani said through an interpreter postgame, per Fox Sports.

Tommy Edman was named NLCS MVP after tying a franchise record with 11 RBIs.

The typically light-hitting shortstop sparked Los Angeles in the first inning with a two-run double and added a two-run home run in the third.

The Dodgers tagged Mets starter Sean Manaea for five earned runs and chased him with no outs in the third inning. They scored again in the sixth before putting the game out of reach with three in the eighth.

Los Angeles drew 42 walks across the six games, the most ever in a postseason series, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs.

The decision to deploy a bullpen game paid off this time after backfiring in Game 2. Michael Kopech opened the contest, while Blake Treinen locked down a two-inning save.

L.A. has won four NL pennants in eight years.
