Houston Astros manager Joe Espada announced Monday that star designated hitter/outfielder Yordan Alvarez has a right knee sprain that will keep him out of the rest of the series against the Seattle Mariners, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic.

The Astros aren't ruling out a return for Alvarez in the last series of the regular season against the Cleveland Guardians.

Alvarez underwent an MRI on Monday after hurting his knee sliding into second base during Sunday's game versus the Los Angeles Angels.

The 27-year-old has gone deep 35 times with 86 RBIs and a .959 OPS over 147 games this season en route to a third straight All-Star nod.

Houston can lock up its fourth straight AL West title and seventh division crown over the last eight seasons with one more win over the Mariners.
