The Milwaukee Brewers lost in stunning fashion to the New York Mets during the NL wild-card series Thursday, which might have been Willy Adames' last game as a member of the Brew Crew.

"It's a tough spot to be in," Adames said following the season-ending loss, according to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Adames has been a big part of the Brewers' success during his four seasons in Milwaukee. The 29-year-old has hit 107 homers and posted a .780 OPS (113 OPS+) in a Brewers uniform. He set career highs in games played, runs, hits, homers, RBIs, and steals this season.

The Dominican infielder is the top free-agent shortstop available this offseason, meaning he'll likely command a lucrative multi-year deal that might be out of the budget for the small-market Brewers.

While the interest in Adames is expected to be strong, he made it clear that he's interested in returning to Milwaukee.

"I don't know if I'm going to come back, but I hope, and if not, it's been a hell of a time here," Adames said. "Hopefully it happens again."
