Report: Red Sox, Sandoval agree to 2-year, $18.25M deal
The Boston Red Sox agreed to a two-year, $18.25-million deal with left-hander Patrick Sandoval, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Sandoval is expected to return in the second half of the 2025 campaign after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
This isn't the first time the Red Sox have inked a pitcher recovering from elbow surgery to a deal like this. They signed James Paxton and Liam Hendriks to similar pacts in recent years.
The 28-year-old Sandoval owns a 4.01 ERA and 3.96 FIP in 536 career innings across six campaigns, all with the Los Angeles Angels.
Sandoval's best season came in 2022 when he authored a 2.91 ERA with 151 strikeouts in a career-high 148 2/3 innings. The southpaw was 94th percentile in breaking ball value and 79th percentile in pitching run value that year.
The Red Sox are projected to begin the 2025 campaign with Garrett Crochet, Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Richard Fitts in the starting rotation.
Boston also has Lucas Giolito and Garrett Whitlock as starting options. Both pitchers are recovering from elbow surgeries.
