Nationals sign DeJong to 1-year, $1M deal
The Washington Nationals agreed to a one-year contract worth $1 million with shortstop Paul DeJong, the club announced Sunday.
The deal contains $600,000 in incentives, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
DeJong, 31, enjoyed a renaissance in 2024 with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. His 24 home runs and 56 RBIs were both his most in a season since 2019.
He accrued just 0.5 fWAR with a disappointing .612 OPS (66 OPS+) while bouncing between three teams in 2023.
The veteran will likely be an insurance policy at shortstop for the Nationals behind young star CJ Abrams, who posted personal bests across the board last season amid an All-Star nod.
DeJong owns a career .714 OPS (93 OPS+) with 140 home runs and 400 RBIs across eight MLB campaigns.
